Debt counsellors must be registered with the National Credit Regulator (NCR) and must act within the boundaries as set by the National Credit Act of 2005 and overseen by the NCR. They are thus qualified to provide professional debt help. Since all debt counsellors must have completed specific training and have passed the relevant exams, registered with the NCR and must have certain financial, training, communication or education backgrounds to ensure that they understand the processes, can do financial planning and work with people, consumers can expect a high level of service delivery and professional debt help from them at all times. Should a consumer not be happy with the service of a debt counsellor, the consumer can place a complaint with the NCR. As such the consumer is protected against any unethical behaviour from debt counsellors.
