The National Credit Regulator is in charge of ensuring that all debt counsellors are properly trained to offer an over indebted person the best advice and service possible. The Act and Regulator also empowers a counsellor to act on your behalf with your creditors, credit bureaux and the magistrates’ courts in South Africa. It may be advisable for you to ensure that the debt agent is reputable and to find any references from clients that they have helped to become debt free.
